Nielsen recently released a study on consumers using wearables and smartphones to monitor their health. According to the report, one in six consumers is aware of wearables, and of those, 61% wear fitness bands. Combining wearables with smartphone apps to improve individual health is steadily on the rise. According to Nielsen’s report, fitness band users are principally younger, heavily focused in the 18-34 age group; with near equal male-to-female ratio.
Nearly one-third of US smartphone users, or roughly 46 million people, accessed fitness related apps in January of 2014. This usage grew by 18% year over year.
